Using IgY in pig feeds to enhance the animal performance

Diarrhea is the most important disease causing death and poor performance of piglets. As the causative agents of diarrhea consist of various bacteria, viruses, parasites, etc, its control in the farms is very difficult. For more than 2 decades we managed to prove that IgY can be useful in preventing diarrhea and improving performance of pigs. The enclosed report introduces a part of our study achievements in this field.

Using IgY in cattle feeds to enhance the animal performance

Like piglets, newborn calves frequently suffer from diarrhea and subsequent death due to various infectious agents in the GI tract. These include bacteria, viruses, protozoa, etc. More than 20 years ago our institute was the first to demonstrate that IgY specifically prepared against E. coli and rotaviruses could be used to control these infections in newborn calves. Furthermore, by combination of various IgY we showed that the antibodies can help the animals grow better.
